Scalar Dantum Angelfish (Pterophyllum scalare) – 4–5 cm
The Scalar Dantum Angelfish is a selectively bred variety of the popular Freshwater Angelfish (Pterophyllum scalare). Known for its elegant body shape, flowing fins and distinctive appearance, this strain makes an impressive centrepiece in planted aquariums and peaceful tropical community tanks.
Originating from the Amazon basin, Pterophyllum scalare naturally inhabits slow-moving waterways filled with submerged roots and aquatic vegetation. In the aquarium, they appreciate similar conditions with warm, clean water, vertical décor such as driftwood or tall plants, and plenty of swimming space.
Juvenile fish measuring 4–5 cm will continue to develop in both size and colour as they mature. Adult angelfish can become territorial, particularly when breeding, so providing adequate space and suitable tank mates is important for long-term success.
Scalar Dantum Angelfish are omnivorous and thrive on a varied diet including premium pellets, flakes, frozen foods and live foods. A diverse diet helps support healthy growth, colour development and overall condition.
Their calm, graceful swimming behaviour and unique appearance make them a favourite among both beginner and experienced aquarists. They are best housed with peaceful community fish that are too large to be viewed as prey and that do not nip at their long fins.
