Continuous bacterial maintenance in a convenient gel

Dr Tim's Waste-Away Time Release Gel provides the manufacturer's Waste-Away bacteria in a slow-release format. Instead of repeatedly measuring a liquid maintenance dose, the gel stays in the aquarium and continuously releases bacteria intended to consume nutrients and break down fish waste. Dr Tim's positions the gels as a maintenance tool for keeping the aquarium cleaner and the water clearer.

Freshwater medium size - up to 189 L

Dr Tim's produces Waste-Away gels in freshwater and marine versions and in three aquarium sizes. The medium size is rated for aquariums up to 50 US gallons, or 189 L. This makes the medium freshwater gel appropriate for tanks within that maximum volume when the freshwater version is selected.

How to install the gel

Keep the clear wrapper in place until you are ready to use the product. When installing it, open the wrapper, remove the tab and attach the supplied suction cup. Dr Tim's instructs users to place the gel in the aquarium, filter box or sump where there is the least amount of water circulation. This placement is part of the manufacturer's directions for the time-release system.

Using Waste-Away Gel as part of maintenance

Before starting the gel, Dr Tim's recommends cleaning the aquarium with Waste-Away Liquid and then using the Time Release Gel for ongoing maintenance. The gel is intended to work automatically rather than being shaken, poured or repeatedly dosed like a liquid product.

When to replace it

Dr Tim's states that a Waste-Away Gel can last up to 30 days. As it reaches the end of its useful period, the gel changes to a tannish colour. At that point, remove it, dispose of the used gel and replace it with a new one. Actual replacement timing should therefore be guided by the manufacturer's colour-change indicator rather than assuming every aquarium will require replacement on exactly the same day.
