Nature Soil Super Powder 3L 1–1.4mm is a fine-grain aquarium substrate designed for planted aquariums, detailed aquascapes and areas where smaller substrate particles make planting easier.

Made in Japan from natural black soil sourced from Kyushu, Nature Soil combines a nutrient-rich organic composition with fine 1–1.4mm granules. Why Use Super Powder Aquarium Soil?

The major advantage of Nature Soil Super Powder is its fine particle size.

At approximately 1–1.4mm, the smaller granules make it easier to position plants with fine or delicate roots. This is particularly useful when planting small foreground species and carpeting plants, where larger substrate granules can make individual stems or plantlets more difficult to secure.

The finer texture can also create a smoother, more detailed foreground in an aquascape.

For larger background plants or when building substantial substrate depth, the standard 2–4mm Nature Soil can be used as the main substrate, with Super Powder used where finer planting control is required.

Nature Soil is made using fully fermented organic compost incorporated into durable soil granules.

This organic composition provides nutrients to support aquatic plant establishment, root development and ongoing growth. The nutrients are designed to release gradually rather than being released into the aquarium all at once.

That makes Nature Soil suitable for planted aquariums where the substrate forms part of the overall plant nutrition system.

Healthy plant growth still depends on the complete aquarium setup, including appropriate lighting, water quality, filtration, CO2 where required and ongoing fertilisation according to the plants being kept.

Ideal for Carpeting Plants

Nature Soil Super Powder is particularly useful when creating a planted foreground.

Small carpeting plants can be difficult to position securely in coarse substrates because their fine roots and small plantlets are easily dislodged. The smaller 1–1.4mm particles provide a finer planting medium that makes detailed placement easier.

Use It Alone or With Standard Nature Soil

Super Powder can be used as the primary substrate in smaller planted aquariums, but it can also be combined with standard Nature Soil 2–4mm.

For larger aquascapes, the standard soil can provide the main substrate depth while Super Powder is added across the top or in selected foreground areas.

This approach gives larger rooted plants the depth of a standard substrate while providing a finer surface for carpeting plants and detailed planting.

Aquarium Haven Tip

For detailed planted aquascapes, you don't necessarily need to use fine soil throughout the entire aquarium.

Consider using standard 2–4mm Nature Soil to create the main substrate depth and contours, then use Super Powder 1–1.4mm across foreground areas where you intend to plant carpeting species.

This can make delicate planting easier while still giving larger background plants plenty of substrate depth for their root systems.

When filling a newly planted aquarium, add water slowly and carefully so the fine soil and freshly planted foreground plants are disturbed as little as possible.
