The Celestial Pearl Danio (often called Galaxy Rasbora) is one of the most striking nano fish available. With its deep blue body sprinkled in cream “stars” and vivid orange fins, this little fish looks like a moving constellation against plants and dark substrates.
Staying tiny and peaceful, the Celestial Pearl Danio is perfect for heavily planted nano tanks, aquascapes and calm community setups where its colours and shy, schooling behaviour can really shine.
Celestial Pearl Danio Appearance & Behaviour
The Celestial Pearl Danio typically reaches around 2–2.5cm, making it ideal for smaller aquariums. Key features include:
- Deep blue body with cream or golden pearl‑like spots
- Bright orange to red fins, especially in males
- Subtle sexual dimorphism – males are more intensely coloured
- Peaceful, schooling nature when kept in a proper group
Because the Celestial Pearl Danio is naturally shy, it looks and behaves best when kept in a planted tank with plenty of cover and a good‑sized group.
Tank Requirements for Celestial Pearl Danio
To keep the Celestial Pearl Danio happy and healthy:
- Minimum tank size: 30L+ (larger is better for stable water and bigger groups)
- Temperature: approx. 22–26°C
- pH: around 6.5–7.5, stable and well‑filtered
- Hardness: Soft to moderately hard water
- Aquascape: Dense planting, fine‑leaved plants, mosses and hiding spots

Schooling & Tank Mates
The Celestial Pearl Danio is a social species and should be kept in a group:
- Aim for at least 8–10 Celestial Pearl Danios so they feel safe
- Larger groups bring out more natural behaviour and better colour
- Avoid large or boisterous fish that may stress or outcompete them
Good tank mates for the Celestial Pearl Danio include small rasboras, peaceful nano tetras, small Corydoras species and dwarf shrimp (with appropriate cover for shrimplets).
