Fire Red Cherry Shrimp are one of the most popular freshwater shrimp thanks to their intense red colour, hardy nature and constant activity. These Fire Red Cherry Shrimp stand out beautifully against green plants and darker substrates, making them a fantastic choice for aquascapes, nano tanks and peaceful community setups.

As Neocaridina shrimp, Fire Red Cherry Shrimp are relatively easy to care for and will happily graze on biofilm, algae and leftover food. In the right conditions, they will also breed readily, creating a self‑sustaining colony over time.

Fire Red Cherry Shrimp typically show:

A solid, bright red body (higher grade than standard cherry shrimp)
Constant grazing behaviour on plants, hardscape and décor
Peaceful nature, ideal for shrimp‑only or gentle community tanks
Visible females with a deeper red colour and often a “saddle” when mature

In a well‑planted aquarium with hiding spots and stable water, Fire Red Cherry Shrimp will be active throughout the day and display their best colour.

Tank Requirements for Fire Red Cherry Shrimp

To keep Fire Red Cherry Shrimp healthy and thriving:

Tank size: From around 20L+ for a small colony
Water temperature: Approx. 20–26°C
pH: Generally neutral to slightly alkaline is suitable
Decor: Live plants, mosses and hardscape give them surfaces to graze and hide
Filtration: Gentle filtration with a pre‑filter sponge to protect shrimplets

Stable water parameters and regular, moderate water changes are more important than chasing exact numbers for Fire Red Cherry Shrimp.

Tank Mates for Fire Red Cherry Shrimp

Fire Red Cherry Shrimp do best with:

Other peaceful nano fish that are unlikely to prey on adults
Small rasboras, micro tetras and otocinclus
Snails and other invertebrates that won’t compete aggressively for food

Avoid larger or predatory fish that may eat shrimp or shrimplets. Shrimp‑only tanks are ideal if you want your Fire Red Cherry Shrimp colony to grow quickly.
